Smart Energy: the future has arrived
On July 12 and 13, 2022, MAC organized the first edition of Recanati Smart Land, aiming to create the benchmark event for the Energy Transition. The event transformed Recanati into a laboratory for discussion and innovation, where institutions, businesses, and citizens could engage in dialogue and share ideas to jointly build a more sustainable future. At the heart of the initiative was the desire to make the energy transition an inclusive process, capable of actively involving the community and enhancing the excellence of the territory. Recanati thus confirmed itself as a symbolic place where beauty, culture, and innovation intertwine, offering a sustainable development model based on public-private collaboration, integration of skills, and direct citizen participation. The event represented a starting point to initiate virtuous networks and shared paths, with the goal of making the area increasingly livable, attractive, and a protagonist in the ecological transition, according to principles of environmental, economic, and social sustainability.
KEY TOPICS OF THE EDITION 2022
TERRITORIAL STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT
The transition towards a Smart Land requires a profound rethinking of the energy and infrastructure models of territories. The integration of digital technologies, smart grids, and renewable sources not only improves service efficiency but also reduces operational and environmental costs. This transformation represents a strategic opportunity to overcome current challenges such as network obsolescence, resource dispersion, and service fragmentation, and to build sustainable, interconnected, and resilient territorial ecosystems.
ENERGY COMMUNITIES AND INDUSTRIES
Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) represent a concrete and innovative response to the energy and economic challenges of territories. By sharing energy produced from local renewable sources, RECs offer the opportunity to reduce energy costs for Industry 4.0 businesses, citizens, and administrations, while promoting environmental sustainability and social inclusion. The technical and regulatory landscape in Italy is rapidly evolving, with the recent adoption of European directives and the launch of initial operational experiences.
ELECTRIC MOBILITY AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Recanati positions itself as a hub for experimentation and innovation in electric mobility and smart infrastructures, becoming a replicable model of a smart city on a territorial scale. Through pilot projects, public-private partnerships, and the integration of digital technologies, the city promotes the ecological transition and the development of smart mobility solutions, with a tangible impact on transport efficiency, air quality, and service inclusivity.
PUBLIC UTILITY SERVICES
Public utility services are undergoing a profound transformation driven by digitalization, the ecological transition, and resources made available by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The current state of the art highlights the emergence of a new model of advanced Utility, focused not only on the efficient management of resources—water, energy, and public lighting—but also on creating value-added services for citizens and businesses. Utilities are becoming key players in innovation by integrating environmental sustainability, smart technologies, and the ability to generate positive impacts at the local level.
